Flexible Time Off
15 days per year, with an additional day for each year of previous employment to a maximum of 20 days total per year. This time off can be used for vacation, personal business or illness. We also offer company paid Parental Leave and Bereavement Leave.
Company Holidays
We offer 12 paid holidays per year, including two floating holidays which are selected by the employee for flexibility in scheduling.
Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
Alexza Pharmaceuticals offers a choice between three types of medical insurance plans for its employees, spouses or domestic partners and dependents. All medical plans include prescription drug benefits. We offer a choice of Aetna PPO/OAMC or HMO, or Kaiser, plus Delta Dental PPO plan (including orthodontia) and Vision Service Plan. Alexza Pharmaceuticals pays the majority of premiums for insurance coverage. We also offer a service, Health Advocate, to assist you with your benefits claims.

Employee Ownership
Stock options are an exciting part of our overall compensation package and are offered to provide new employees an opportunity to participate in the growing success of Alexza. Shares of Alexza common stock are granted upon employment with the appropriate approval, and will be subject to all the terms and conditions of the Alexza 2005 Equity Incentive Plan. Employees who have reached their 2 year anniversary may also receive a refresher grant, subject to the the approval of the Board of Directors, consisting of additional stock options, restricted stock units, or a combination of both. Employees will also be eligible to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Plan, which is a payroll deduction plan that offers eligible employees the opportunity to purchase Alexza common stock at a discount to the market price. Participants may authorize after tax payroll deductions of up to 20% of their base compensation for the purchase of stock under the 2005 Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
Income Protection Plans
We offer short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), life insurance (2X your salary to a maximum of $400,000), and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurances. Alexza Pharmaceuticals pays 100% of the monthly premium for employees.
Tax Deferral Savings Plans
Alexza Pharmaceuticals offers a 401(k) plan through Fidelity with a variety of fund choices and allows its employees to contribute pre-tax dollars. We also offer a Flexible Spending Plan which allows employees to contribute pre-tax dollars for dependent care reimbursement and health care expenses not covered by insurance, including some over-the-counter medications.
